Berkeley grads win big with proposal to bring affordable housing to Sacramento Armory
In early May, CED Students from multiple departments claimed first place in the James R. Boyce Housing Studio Challenge. Their project centered on new housing in Sacramento as the competition aimed to bring affordable housing to state-owned land.

A $1 million dollar pledge will make possible a focus on social housing in the Department of Architecture at UC Berkeley
Donated by CED Professor Emeritus Daniel Solomon (M.Arch ’66), FAIA, and filmmaker, Shirley Sun, the pledge will provide seminars and studios connected with the idea of social housing: designs that embrace and embody their local history and community.

Ronald Rael receives Fleishhacker Foundations Eureka Fellowship
Ronald Rael, Acting Chair and Professor of Architecture, was awarded a $30,000 Eureka Fellowship by the Fleishhacker Foundation. Given to Bay Area artists, the Fellowship funds the future work of artists by “supporting more uninterrupted creative time.”
