CED Advisory Council

The CED Advisory Council provides strategic guidance to the dean and other college leaders on issues of environmental design futures in education, research, and practice. The council advocates for the college, elevating its visibility and promoting its reputation. Members support the vision and priorities of the dean and college leadership through their expertise and guidance. Council members are distinguished leaders in their fields who bring a diversity of perspectives in support of CED’s mission to educate the future leaders in all the fields of environmental design.

Darrell Chan
Darrell Chan (BA Architecture 1998, MArch 2004) is an executive director at The Luk Hoi Tong Company, which focuses on commercial real estate in Hong Kong. He led the development of LHT Tower, an award-winning 29-story mixed-used commercial development. Recently, he helped launch and sponsor the Pacific Rim Urban Resilience By Design Research program, a collaboration between the College of Environmental Design and the University of Hong Kong focusing on innovative solutions for coastal sites surrounding the Pearl River Delta and the San Francisco Bay. He serves as an advisor to The Berkeley Club of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Proptech Association. Previously, he practiced architecture in California.

Benjamin Gilmartin
Benjamin Gilmartin (BA Architecture, English 1992) is a partner at Diller Scofidio + Renfro. He led the redesign of Alice Tully Hall, multiple public spaces within the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts campus, and the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Most recently, Gilmartin completed the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs, hailed as one of the most accessible museums in the country, and led the design of the adjoining Park Union Bridge. He recently completed DS+R’s first building in Australia at the University of Sydney and is co-leading the design for the new home of MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning and a major tech headquarters in the Pacific Northwest. He received his MArch from Harvard GSD.

Rossana Hu
Rossana Hu (BA Architecture 1990) is co-founder, with Lyndon Neri, of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, an interdisciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai. She is Miller Professor and chair of the Department of Architecture at University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design. Previously, she served as chair of the Department of Architecture at Tongji University. In 2023, she was Howard Friedman Visiting Professor of Practice at CED. Hu is a founding partner of Design Republic in Shanghai, creative director of Stellar Works, and serves on the International Advisory Board of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Hu received her Master of Architecture and Urban Planning from Princeton University.

Mariana Ibañez
Mariana Ibañez is associate professor and chair of the Department of Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA and the cofounder of Ibañez Kim. She has published two edited volumes, Paradigms in Computing (Routledge) and Organization or Design? (a+t). Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the MAXII museum in Rome, and The National Art Museum in Beijing. Prior to forming Ibañez Kim, Ibañez was project architect and designer at Zaha Hadid Architects and a designer at the Advanced Geometry Unit at ARUP in London. She received her BArch from the University of Buenos Aires and MArch from the Architectural Association in London.

Brian Lee
Brian Lee, FAIA (BA Architecture 1976) is a consulting design partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. In 2007, after practicing in the SOM San Francisco office for 28 years, where he became a design partner, he joined the Chicago office, transitioning to consulting partner in 2019. His portfolio encompasses domestic and international projects at all scales, recognized by over 180 significant awards for design excellence. His work has been published extensively worldwide and featured at the Venice and Beijing Biennales and the Chicago Biennial. He is a registered NCARB architect in multiple states and is a LEED accredited professional. He was named to the AIA College of Fellows in 2008. Lee received his MArch with commendation from Harvard GSD.

LYNDON NERI
Lyndon Neri, Hon. FAIA (BA Architecture 1987) is co-founder with Rossana Hu of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, an interdisciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai. Alongside his design practice, Neri has been deeply committed to architectural education, having taught and lectured at numerous universities, including Princeton University School of Architecture, Harvard GSD, Yale School of Architecture, and UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design. Hu is a founding partner of Design Republic in Shanghai, creative director of Stellar Works, and a board member of Roll & Hill LLC in Brooklyn. In 2025, Neri was elevated as Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Neri received his MArch from Harvard GSD.

OWEN D. THOMAS
Owen D. Thomas has served as the CEO and a director of BXP since April 2013, and he was appointed chairman of the board in 2022. He is a director of Lehman Brothers Holdings and served as its first chairman. Prior to Lehman, Thomas was with Morgan Stanley for 24 years, serving in various roles, business units, and locations. Thomas is a director of the Real Estate Roundtable, a member of NAREIT’s advisory board, and a member of the economic club of New York. He is a former chairman of ULI and of PREA, and attended and is chairman of the board of trustees of Woodberry Forest School. Thomas received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ray Zee
Ray Zee (BA Architecture 1987) has practiced internationally for over 35 years, having worked in the offices of IM Pei and Sir Norman Foster. He has led design teams within developer offices for projects in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Singapore, New York, and various parts of Greater China. As chief designer of The Mills, Zee led the team to win the Hong Kong Institute of Architects 2019 Medal of the Year and the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation. He has experience in residential, hotel, commercial and civic projects.
