In memoriam: Professor Emeritus Ed Blakely
The College of Environmental Design was saddened to learn of the death of Professor Emeritus Edward Blakely, who passed away on September 6 at the age of 87 in his adopted hometown of Sydney, Australia. A specialist in post-disaster urban policy and planning, Blakely joined the faculty of the Department of City & Regional Planning in 1974; he served as department chair from 1986 until his retirement in 1994.

Julie Riley named inaugural Creedon Fellow
The Department of Architecture at UC Berkeley is pleased to welcome L.A.–based designer, artist, and educator Julie Riley as the inaugural Creedon Fellow. This fellowship was endowed by Gerard “Roddy” Creedon (1959–2021), a founder and principal of Allied Architecture + Design.

Technology for a Sustainable Tomorrow: CED lecture series lineup announced
This interdisciplinary lecture series considers the role of technology in shaping our landscapes and cities, past and present, and asks the question, “Can technology fix what technology broke?” We’ve invited speakers from a range of disciplines to critically assess the compelling opportunities, as well as the potential downsides, of generative AI and other new technologies that are increasingly becoming part of our design and research practices.
