Julie Riley named inaugural Creedon Fellow
The Department of Architecture at UC Berkeley is pleased to welcome L.A.–based designer, artist, and educator Julie Riley as the inaugural Creedon Fellow.
The Creedon Fellowship was endowed by Gerard “Roddy” Creedon (1959–2021), a founder and principal of Allied Architecture + Design and a longtime and beloved lecturer in architecture. It aims to connect academia to practice by bringing an early career designer to teach in the department for a full academic year.
Riley’s work examines materials and tools of production by revisiting historical narratives, documents, and techniques. She has been a project designer at Welcome Projects and a designer with d.esk, where she helped realize two full-scale architectural installations that tested new material connections, structural capacity, loads from water retention, and public engagement.
In 2023–2024, Riley was an adjunct instructor teaching undergraduate architecture studios at Woodbury University, where she received the emerging faculty award in architecture.
Riley received a Master of Architecture with distinction from SCI-Arc — where her thesis, “Surface, Level: The Municipal Services Building of Philadelphia,” earned her a Gehry Prize — and a BS in interior design from Philadelphia University.

The fellowship fund established through Creedon’s legacy endowment was augmented by generous contributions made in Roddy’s memory by CED faculty, alums, and community members. We extend our gratitude to all of the supporters who made this fellowship possible.
