Rahul Joshi
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Partner and Principal Architect, Studio 1+1 Architects
Rahul is a passionate architect with 4+ years of professional experience who is based out of Mumbai, a city that has been a canvas of constant transformation. As a young dreamer witnessing mammoth sites, he felt like he was watching the genius of clockwork, never still, and he was always inspired by it. He consequently joined the Architecture undergraduate program of University of Mumbai to explore this profound curiosity. During the course of his undergraduate program, his summer research at Sameep Padora + Associates (sP+A) for a publication project on Mumbai’s hybrid building-street typologies sharpened and expanded his research skills. Post-graduation, he worked at DIG Architects, which propelled him from Architect to the position of Project Architect/Lead. Heading and working on various projects exposed him to overseeing design and technical drawings; managing timelines, budgets, site execution; aligning the scope of teams; and conducting client/vendor/contractor relations. He actively used these skills in a $150M residential development project in uptown Mumbai.
His architectural journey at DIG Architects perfected his professional skills, but co-founding Studio 1+1 Architects in May 2022 truly ignited his passion for real estate development. Leading a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial spaces across India, he excelled in his ability to manage business cash flow, client outreach and project deadlines, to name a few, while dealing with and resolving project hurdles of labor management, quality control, and civic body issues with delegation and patience. He also helped 15+ public development projects critical for the state police authority, from creating police stations to revitalizing deteriorating structures across eight regions, fostering effective collaboration with government officials, contractors, and key stakeholders. His vernacular experience touched on dire issues and spurred him to pursue UC Berkeley MRED+D program to bridge those issues with a versatile design-developer-finance skill set and constantly question the multi-faceted characteristics of the industry to refine it.
Outside his professional, Rahul loves to go for photo walks and capture the daily nuances of the city, as well as listen to music. He is the Founder and Chief Editor of “India Gram,” the oldest Indian photo-community on Instagram, sharing paused moments of India by storytellers and photojournalists from across the globe for the past 11 years. Over this while, more than 2.9 million images have been submitted to be featured on the profile. You can count him in for anything that involves music, photographs, and humor!
