Karan Mangat joins the MRED+D program having been immersed in the commercial real estate industry for a decade as an Analyst, Manager, Project Leader, and Consultant. His professional journey began at Real Capital Analytics (RCA), a fast-growing real estate data and analytics SaaS company that was acquired in 2021 for $950M by MSCI Inc. His eight-year tenure at RCA | MSCI rooted his experience in research and analytical knowledge, managing evolving teams, and leading initiatives to improve business processes employing advancing technologies.
In his roles as a Research Manager and Analyst, he honed his skills in data and analysis, gaining deep working insights on transactions, refinances, construction, and development of CRE deals valued over $2.5M. His specialization in open-source intelligence (OSINT) and being entrusted as the lead Researcher for the California, Washington, Oregon, Florida, and New York markets allowed him to obtain in-depth knowledge on investment grade projects for all CRE property types. Performing these daily deep-dives exposed him to the dynamic effects of good design practices and socially-conscious development within the context of spatial development strategies. He has spent countless hours working within a fast-paced, agile team on developing and implementing new methodologies for data product types, including mortgage default-cycle tracking and comprehensive tracking of CRE development projects. His work as a project leader leveraging third-party technology utilizing Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for assisted data gathering and extraction opened his curiosity and fascination in what the future holds for the advent of Generative AI and AI-assisted applications across all built environment disciplines. Additionally, working consistently in a freelance capacity throughout his career as a consultant has exposed him to a practical perspective on the challenges and opportunities in CRE management, construction, and investment, having worked on projects located across the globe.
Karan’s passion lies at the intersection of data-driven decision making, deployment of novel technologies, and reflective discourse to advance all practices within the built environment. He acknowledges the complexities in real estate development, and emphasizes the need for patience, strategic and iterative thinking, and the importance of patient capital for all resilient projects.
In his free time, Karan enjoys reading non-fiction and watching documentaries and practices the mindset of being a lifelong learner. To get outdoors, he likes to jog around his local trails, utilize his town’s cycling lanes on his performance road bike, and play a round of golf.
