Kensington, MD, USA
Senior Development Associate, AvalonBay Communities
Alex joins the MRED+D program with five years of professional experience in the commercial real estate industry. Alex began his career as a Financial Analyst on the Asset Management team at Walker and Dunlop. From there, Alex transitioned to a debt originations and business development role at a start-up bridge lender, Civic Financial Services, in the Los Angeles area. After a couple years out west, Alex moved back to his roots in the Washington, D.C. area to work on the Mid-Atlantic development team at national REIT, AvalonBay Communities. As a Senior Associate at AvalonBay, Alex assisted in all aspects of the development life cycle – from initial site feasibility and underwriting to working alongside asset teams of third-party architects and city planners to progress large scale multifamily projects through entitlement milestones.
Alex graduated from Georgetown University in 2018, where he majored in Economics. At Berkeley, Alex hopes to hone new skills in the design and architecture realms as well as sharpen his financial modeling and public policy knowledge base. Additionally, Alex intends on exploring how technology and modular construction can be harnessed to create more equitable and sustainable urban environments. He is excited to join a diverse cohort and learn from the experiences of fellow classmates and faculty. After graduation, he is interested in working for a multidisciplinary investment and development company that prioritizes technological innovation and sustainability efforts.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys spending time on the slopes, golf course, and hiking trails. He also loves a good board game, exploring new cities, and checking out the latest Bay Area restaurants with friends.
