CED Summer Programs Now Accepting Applications
The Dean's Office is excited to announce that CED's three summer programs are now accepting applications.
Following a successful remote learning pilot in the summer of 2020, the program directors have fine-tuned their virtual curriculum for the second iteration of the online programs.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
The embARC Summer Design Academy is an immersive program that brings together high school students from diverse backgrounds in a virtual space to explore architecture, urban design and sustainable city planning through integrated components: an Architecture + Design Studio, a Sustainable City Planning Workshop, a Digital Design Workshop, an Environmental Design Conversation Series and a Tools + Materials Workshop. No previous experience in design is required.
Disc* (Design & Innovation for Sustainable Cities) is an immersive program for currently enrolled undergraduates that explores an interdisciplinary and multi-scalar approach to design and analysis in the urban environment. Disc* participants engage in the discourses of urban innovation and develop creative solutions to the urgent challenges global cities face today. No previous experience in design is required.
The Summer [IN]STITUTE in Environmental Design is an immersive six-week program for post-baccalaureates that gives you the opportunity to test your enthusiasm for the material and culture of architecture, landscape architecture and sustainable city planning while developing a competitive portfolio of design work. Students choose one of four cohorts, each corresponding to a department within CED: [IN]ARCH, [IN]ARCH ADV, [IN]CITY, or [IN]LAND. With the exception of [IN]ARCH ADV, no prior experience in environmental design is required.
Successful completion of each program confers 1-5 units on an official UC Berkeley transcript.
The online application can be found on Slideroom.
