Faculty presentations | Lau Grants for Just Climate Futures
Recipients of the inaugural round of Lau Grants for Just Climate Futures present their research findings at this evening of short talks. In keeping with the college’s mission, this grant program supports cross-disciplinary projects that generate actionable solutions and engage communities affected by climate change.
Professor of Architecture Mark Anderson presents housing prototypes that use new methods of low-carbon wood construction for rebuilding in wildfire zones. Associate Professor of Architecture Neyran Turan discusses her work on regenerative and low-carbon architectural construction with hempcrete. Professor of Architecture and Urban Design Margaret Crawford and Scott Elder, lecturer in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning, talk about their work with community stakeholders in the Salinas Valley around flood control and economic development. Assistant Professors of City & Regional Planning Zachary Lamb and Zoé Hamstead present their investigation into climate vulnerability and displacement risk in California's manufactured home parks. On behalf of a large team of cross-disciplinary CED faculty and researchers, Associate Professor of City & Regional Planning Charisma Acey and Professor of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning Kristina Hill discuss the Bay Area Air Quality Map Analysis Project; this multiyear project builds a “digital twin” for the San Francisco Bay Area to reveal real-time air quality.
These talks are held in conjunction with the exhibition on view in the Bauer Wurster Gallery.
Lau Grants for Just Climate Futures are funded by the Lau family and administered by the Institute of Urban & Regional Development.
