A review of recent projects exploring visual and programmatic approaches to repairing silences and erasures in our popular historical narratives. Designing Dissenting Histories reflects on Sue Mobley’s experiences mapping protest and resistance, creating accessible public art as public history, and curating the long Civil Rights Movement for political nuance and human connection.

She is currently Director of Research at Monument Lab, and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Art and Space at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, as well as a member of the New Orleans City Planning Commission.
