Eligibility

Eligible students shall be in good academic standing as an undergraduate in their final year of the Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture, a graduate student in the Master of Landscape Architecture program, or a Ph.D. student who is advanced to candidacy in the Landscape Architecture program.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Eligible students shall be in good academic standing as an undergraduate in their final year of the Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture, a graduate student in the Master of Landscape Architecture program, or a Ph.D. student who is advanced to candidacy in the Landscape Architecture program. Two or three research awards will be made at $4,000 or $8,000 each. The awards can be applied toward tuition and fee payments first, or paid as a stipend. Awardees should consult with Jill Fujisaki about these options once the awards are granted.

The application should include 6-8 page research statement that consists of:

1) A cover sheet indicating the project name and the names of all student participants, plus the program(s) they are in;
2) A statement of the goals and importance of the project, plus information about the specific research site if applicable;
3) A description of the research methods that will be used;
4) A description of the work product(s) that will result from the research;
5) The timeline for the research project;
6) A budget for how the ELD award will be used to support the research. Images may be included, as appropriate.

Other items that must also be provided with the application are:

• Curriculum vitae of all participants.
• A letter of support* from a faculty member who agrees to provide consultation on the project.
• A single combined portfolio of the student’s or team of students’ work that clearly credits each individual student’s work within the portfolio.

**Letter of Support**
Letter of support SHOULD NOT be included in your application. Instead, faculty will email your letter directly to Inayah Baaqee. Reference letters (emailed) and applications (uploaded on Google form) need to be submitted by 1:00pm Wednesday 10/13.

The portfolio (mentioned above) should be of work done while at LAEP, and may include, but not limited to:

• Video, 2D and 3D work.
• Publications.
• Any other work that should be considered by the jury.

The research statement and other items should all be combined into a single PDF.

A selection committee comprised of faculty, external reviewers, and representatives of the Narayanan Family Foundation will review applications.

FUND BACKGROUND

The Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Award for Excellence in Landscape Design. Funded by the Narayanan Family Foundation, and now in its third year, the ELD award supports an individual or team of undergraduate and/or graduate student(s) to undertake a research project exploring innovation in landscape architectural design that relates to environmental issues such as sea level rise, green infrastructure, climate change, wetland restoration, and/or environmental justice, among possible topics for exploration. It is expected that the research funded by the ELD award work will be completed by May 12, 2023 (the end of the spring semester). For more information, please visit this page.
