Please note: Federal financial aid regulations require that all awards received by a student cannot exceed their financial aid need as determined by a congressional formula. It is possible, therefore, that the cash award for a Prize could reduce some component of a needy student’s package of financial aid awards. In these cases, the Financial Aid Office attempts first to reduce loan or work aid; fellowships, grants or scholarships are only reduced as a last resort. Regardless of your financial aid situation, the IRS views fellowships, grants or scholarships that are not directly applied to tuition or other educational expenses as taxable income.
FUND BACKGROUD
PYATOK works to foster the development of vibrant, sustainable, inclusive communities through sensitive architecture and urban design, education, service and technical innovation. This mission reveals the originating purpose of their work: to provide the highest quality design and technical assistance in a world of shrinking resources to people across a wide spectrum of incomes, socio-cultural backgrounds, and ages. The firm was founded to help lower income communities determine their own sustainable housing solutions unique to their cultural and social origins. Today, PYATOK’s commitment has extended to people who have the financial ability to comfortably obtain their own housing on the open market, and to students in higher education who need decent and affordable housing.
PYATOK is pleased to offer a paid internship to an undergraduate or graduate architecture student with a passion for housing and socially equitable architecture. Students of all backgrounds may apply, but preference will be given to first generation college students and/or community college transfer students. This opportunity is offered in accordance with CED’s efforts to cultivate an inclusive environment that both respects and reflects the diverse communities in which we live and work. During the summer internship, the student will obtain direct experience working on local housing projects, in addition to exposure to the complexity of issues associated with building housing in the Bay Area. Successful candidates bring to PYATOK a passion for creating vibrant communities through the design of buildings that enhances the quality of life for all members of the community.
