Kaavya Chhatrapati grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Texas for her undergraduate education, where she earned a Bachelor of Architecture from UT Austin. She has worked as a Development Manager at Kalterra and previously as a Development Associate at Bercy Chen Studio. Kaavya has successfully managed projects through their full lifecycle, from acquisition to construction, and has championed sustainable initiatives such as rain gardens and the use of sustainable materials. She has also devised creative affordable financing solutions and leveraged density and transit initiatives to achieve high levels of affordability in housing projects.
Kaavya is committed to addressing the housing crisis in the Bay Area, focusing on equitable housing development centered around creating complete and inclusive neighborhoods. With experience in affordable development, she seeks to explore equitability more holistically. During her time at Berkeley and beyond, Kaavya aims to answer critical questions: How can development professionals contribute to gentrification even when their intention is to create inclusive communities? How can we provide equitable housing to foster socio-economically diverse communities? Additionally, she seeks to learn from both local and diverse global precedents to foster innovation.
Deeply invested in sustainability, Kaavya recognizes the built environment’s significant impact on individual and global health, including climate perspectives. She spends almost every weekend outdoors, hiking, climbing, backpacking, and camping in California’s nature. Kaavya also enjoys big travel adventures, having most recently tackled Everest Base Camp. Additionally, she loves baking, especially incorporating flavors that encapsulate her travel memories.
