LD ARCH Studio Travel: Japan 2008

In May 2008, six UC Berkeley LAEP master's students and Professor Linda Jewell traveled to Japan for a workshop hosted by the Kyoto University of Art and Design, a top Japanese design school. During the week-long exchange with the faculty and students at Kyoto, the UC Berkeley students were introduced to a new approach to landscape design, that of considering maintenance as part of the design process. Students visited gardens throughout Kyoto and learned about the art of landscape maintenance and pruning.
