Fall 2017, Arch 202: The Dessau Effect — Castillo & Davids
This architecture studio experimented with a new model of pedagogy that paired Greg Castillo, an architectural historian, with René Davids, a design instructor. Together, they developed a studio project exploring the social and environmental design problems of a former East German rustbelt city, Dessau - the home of the world-renowned Dessau Bauhaus founded by Walter Gropius. The Dessau Bauhaus Foundation selected Arch 202 as one of its five global partners for the Foundation’s 2016 Open Studio program, with the student work generated in Berkeley slated for presentation at an international congress marking the 2019 centenary of the Bauhaus.
