Fall 2017 – A100C Students in China
CED Visiting Esherick Professor Mary-Ann Ray and CED students visited sites in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Beijing and worked on a special project for the 2017 UABB Hong Kong Shenzhen Architecture and Urbanism Biennale.
While in Shenzhen, the students participated in a project with architects Robert Mangurian and Robert Adams titled "House 17: Narrating Nantou Village" for the biennale. They worked on restoring and modernizing a small Qing Dynasty structure that, during the course of the Biennale, will serve as a kind of archive and space for performances that revolve around the Urban Village of Nantou and some of its residents. At the conclusion of the Biennale, it will be handed back to the owner who will then be able to rent it for future use.
While in Beijing, the group met with one of China's most well regarded contemporary artists, He Yunchang, in his studio to view his latest work. The group also visited CED Alum Yung Ho Chang at his office Atelier Feichang Jianzhu.
