Design & Difference: Critical Non-Compliance was a seminar-workshop, offered in Fall 2016, which called on students to consider how design can engage with disability to generate new design methodologies, formal innovation, and spatial experience. Conception of a social, sentient, and situated body is rarely brought to conscious attention in design practices. Focusing on the disabled body, instead of ideals and averages, provided imaginative access to specificities of embodiment, movement, sensory experience, and identity.
