ARCH 201 Fall 2009 Stoner
Slow REVERSE / Fast FORWARD
Our site is the exurban hinterland south of San Francisco along the 101 highway, a landscape of isolated corporate headquarters, chain hotels, parking lots, airport support structures and office parks — constructions that fail to rise to the level of what we normally define as "Architecture." These buildings were addressed as landscape — that is, as the potential site for an architecture that can be excavated out of their very substance. These sites were approached with a non-judgmental spirit and a forensic eye for detail, as archeologists searching for new urban possibilities.
