2019 Global Leadership Program

For two weeks in October 2019, a delegation of 20 government officials from the State of Maharashtra traveled to Wurster for an intensive training on the topic of affordable and sustainable housing. Participants representing the Departments of Housing, Urban Development, Slum Rehabilitation in Mumbai and other municipalities across the state shared their perspectives and concerns with CED's subject matter experts in topics ranging from infrastructure service and planning, public/private partnerships in housing finance, augmented and virtual reality for building design, recycling demolished concrete, and building energy use. Site visits to various housing and transportation developments across the Bay Area gave the group a behind-the-scenes look at best practices in affordable housing development. Each participant returned to their work with valuable new tools and actionable strategies for tackling the wicking problems facing their region.
