BIOGRAPHY

Stephen Engblom is a global leader in urban design, with extensive experience advising cities and developers around the world on urban infill and regeneration projects. He is the founder of Engblom Architecture and Planning, where he advises private and public sector clients on real estate projects of all scales, ranging from residential developments to large-scale urban infill initiatives. In addition to his work on urban design, Engblom is developing innovative approaches to shelter for unhoused communities in California. A registered architect and urban planner, Engblom has spent over two decades collaborating on urban design and architectural initiatives in the San Francisco Bay Area, nationally, and internationally. He specializes in bridging public and private sector realms to implement innovative growth strategies, cultivate strong client relationships, and deliver financially successful projects.

Engblom's deep technical expertise in urban design and planning, along with his global network, has enabled him to develop equitable, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable strategies for both public and private sector clients. He served as Senior Managing Director at CBRE, where he launched the consultancy’s first public sector-facing practice, and as Executive Vice President at AECOM, where he led the creation of AECOM Cities—an integrated approach to urban infrastructure development.

In addition to his work in the private sector, Engblom serves as a Commissioner for the Port of San Francisco, contributing to key decisions that shape the city’s waterfront and urban development. He is a faculty member at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design, where he teaches resilience in real estate development, and remains actively engaged in civic initiatives and advisory roles.
