Lino is a PhD student in Building Science, Technology and Sustainability at UC Berkeley. He received a BA in Political Science from Humboldt State University in 2014 and an MS in Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Michigan in 2018, which have shaped his drive to pursue interdisciplinary research methods that are both technical and people-focused. Lino’s outlook on the built environment and sustainability are heavily influenced by his upbringing in East Oakland and growing up around his family’s small HVAC business.
Lino is also a Senior Research Associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the Energy Technologies Area. Since 2018, his time at the Lab has involved work on projects ranging from energy management systems, emissions impact modeling, and developing frameworks for evaluating the energy resilience of buildings. He is particularly passionate about topics in geospatial analysis for revealing how insights at the building-scale can show trends across whole cities.
For his PhD, Lino wants to understand how different types of HVAC setups impact our indoor spaces and suit unique living situations beyond energy efficiency.
