Dan Spiegel
BIOGRAPHY
Dan Spiegel is a Lecturer in Architecture at UC Berkeley. He is a licensed architect in California and Hawaii, and a founding partner of hybrid architecture / landscape architecture firm SAW // Spiegel Aihara Workshop. SAW's work makes use of the productive tension between architecture and landscape architecture. Instead of delving into the oppositions that are typically associated with landscape and architecture when considered as separate disciplines—interior/exterior, synthetic/ natural, contained/continuous, or formal/informal—SAW is concerned primarily with conceptions of experience over time. SAW has been recognized with an AIA Emerging Professionals distinction in 2016, The League Prize from the Architectural League of New York in 2018, Architect Magazine’s “Next Progressives” in 2018, and Architectural Record's "Design Vanguard" in 2019, as well as several other local and national design awards for achievement.
