
BIOGRAPHY
Byron Kuth, FAIA, is the design principal of Kuth Ranieri Architects. Of midwestern roots, Byron went east to study and holds degrees in fine arts and architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating, he settled in the Bay Area and co-founded the bicoastal firm of Kuth Ranieri Architects with his partner, Liz Ranieri, FAIA. Their team has earned a reputation for expressive, site-specific, sustainable architecture, planning, and design. He works across scales and on various project types, from public park pavilions to community museums and airports.
Kuth has taught at California College of the Arts, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, as a Friedman Professor for the Master of Architecture program at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, and at UC Berkeley’s Fung Institute for Engineering. His firm’s work has been recognized with numerous accolades, including: AIA awards at local, regional, and national levels; the Architectural League’s Young Architects and Emerging Voices awards; Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard; and RISD Serves award. Kuth was elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in the object of design. The firm's monograph, Kuth Ranieri Architects, was published by The Graham Foundation and Princeton Architectural Press.
Kuth has long advocated for arts, education, and the environment. He launched the Deep Green Design Alliance (DGDA), a think tank comprising a group of cross-disciplinary architects, engineers, planners, and futurists researching effective solutions to strengthen the resiliency of the Bay Area through design. He serves on RISD’s Department of Architecture’s Advisory Council and is a trustee of California College of Arts. He co-founded the LEF Foundation in the late eighties and continues to a serve on its advisory board.
