May 13, 2015
Associate Professor of Architecture Ronald Rael was selected for the 2015 Bakar Fellowship. The Bakar Fellows Program enhances the efforts of UC Berkeley’s world-class faculty to translate important scientific discoveries into practical solutions. This program will initially support four cohorts of early career faculty whose research shows commercial promise. Each cohort consists of several faculty working in areas with a high likelihood of contributing to California’s economy. Rael was selected for his research in developing advanced building material applications using additive manufacturing. His project "Bloom" received much press and accolades and is acknowledged as an architectural feat in using 3d printing as a building device.
