MLA candidate, Arcus Fellow Sariyah Benoit named to newest cohort of LAF Ignite

The College of Environmental Design is proud to announce that the Landscape Architecture Foundation has named Sariyah Benoit (MLA 2027) to the fourth cohort of its LAF Ignite program. LAF Ignite is a comprehensive program for BIPOC students that provides participants with an annual $10,000 scholarship, paid summer internships, and various forms of mentorship. Benoit was one of just seven students selected for this prestigious honor.
At UC Berkeley, Benoit is an Arcus Fellow. Her research interests include biomimicry for remediation, the unequal distribution of green spaces in urban areas, and social-emotional cartography. Her art, designs, and community workshops explore the intersection of communal spaces, cultural aesthetics, and equity in human-ecological interactions in coastal urban spaces. With a keen interest in Black spatial politics, embodied memory, and de-neocolonial design, Sariyah examines contemporary urban issues through a Black feminist lens. She holds a BA in African American Studies from Emory University.
