Fall architecture lecture series celebrates new work and new publications

Aug 14, 2025
Composite with headshots and work examples for each guest lecturer

The Department of Architecture is honored to host a robust slate of talks this semester that introduces new works and new publications.

The series kicks off with MIT’s John Fernández presenting work that combines science and design to illuminate pathways toward a sustainable future; the lecture, entitled “Nature, Cities, AI: Notes on the Planet,” is crosslisted with the college-wide lectures series on technology and the built environment.

In October, we’re pleased to feature our own Andrew Atwood, associate professor of architecture and co-founder of First Office, as well as Professor Emeritus Stanley Saitowitz, who joins us for a talk and book launch celebrating the publication of Lectures Writing Pictures. Developed over 50 years of teaching and practice, this collection of lectures, photographs, and writing examines ways of seeing and explores the relationship between buildings and their settings.

Amale Andraos and Dan Wood, founders of the international architecture studio Workac, visit from New York  to celebrate the publication of the monograph Buildings for People and Plants (Park Books).

The series concludes with a presentation by Esherick Visiting Professors Byron Kuth and Liz Ranieri, who will present the work of their firm Kuth Ranieri Architects, known for human-centric projects designed to engage civic life, reflect cultural diversity, and foster resilience.

The Department of Architecture is also hosting alum Thomas Robinson (BA Arch 1991), founder and principal of LEVER Architecture, who will present a talk on regenerative timber architecture in the CED series Technology for a Sustainable Tomorrow.
