Henry Temple Howard (1894-1967)

Henry Temple Howard, son of noted architect John Galen Howard, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1917 with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture. He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1919 to 1921 and worked with his father in California after returning from France. Howard later worked for Bakewell and Brown, specifically on the design of Coit Tower, and he designed houses and apartment houses around the Bay Area. With architect and landscape architect Mark Daniels, Howard designed the Ping Yuen Housing Project in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

The Henry Temple Howard collection consists of a single manuscript box containing correspondence, clippings, specifications, drawings and photographs primarily relating to Howard’s military service and architectural career. The collection consists primarily of project records for the Ping Yuen Housing Project.
