Department of Architecture hosts Diego García-Setein as Visiting Professor

Diego García-Setein is an architect and Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM-UPM). His research focuses on the convergence of technology, ecology, and design, and his work explores the current frontiers between architecture and other technical disciplines.

His doctoral thesis, TRANS-Architecture: Imagination, Invention and Individualization of the Technical Architectural Object, examined approaches to project methodology, industrialization, and technology transfer from other industries and fields of knowledge to the architectural project.

In 2008, García-Setein founded CoLaboratorio, a Madrid-based teaching and research studio implementing collaborative work methodologies and transferring industrialization processes and prototyping to architecture. He is a professor of Architectural Projects in the CoLaboratorio teaching unit whose work has received the UPM Award for Teaching Innovation.

García-Setein is also the founder of Ecosistema Urbano and of GaSSz Arquitectos Asociados. His projects have been awarded in more than 15 ideas competitions (Europan VII, Europan X), and his work has received the First Prize in Architectural Review Award for Emergent Architecture, Arquia-Próxima, Enor Awards, ASPRIMA, and Opera Prima by the Association of Architects of Madrid.

Also from UPM is Rodrigo Rubio Cuadrado, who is a visiting scholar this semester. Rubio is currently Adjunct Professor of Fabrication Technologies at IE University and a Ph.D. candidate at the Design Department of the UPM-ETSAM, both in Madrid.
