Cold War Under Construction

This research and book project examine the ways in which government representatives and design professionals mobilized cold war geopolitics to produce built environments that reified the postwar division of Germany. Cold War under Construction explores the emergence and institution of two 'International Styles' - the West's International-Style Modernism and the East's Socialist Realism - and their use in distinguishing the cities and citizens of an Atlanticist alliance led by the U.S. from those of the East Bloc.
