Spring 2015, Vertical Studios Asia: Singapore, ARCH 202 – Calott
In its fifth year, the Vertical Cities Asia competition focused on new models for high-density sustainable topologies to address problems facing a rapidly urbanizing Asia. Associate Professor Chris Calott, Lalanne Chair of Real Estate, Architecture and Urbanism, led two student teams, comprising his CED Super Studio, who competed in this year's event. The teams traveled to Singapore in the spring to understand the geographic and cultural context of the site. The balance of the semester was used to develop two concepts for final presentation to the jury in July. This year’s competition theme "Everyone Contributes," focused on the Paya Lebar Air Base site situated within the eastern region of Singapore. The teams were tasked with developing solutions to house 100,000 people who would live and work within one square kilometer, with a full slate of live-work-play provision. Work from both teams is shown here. Team Quarry Shores placed second in the competition.
