
Stefan Pellegrini
PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
Stefan Pellegrini is an architect, urban designer, planner, and teacher who believes that design plays an important role in providing equity and encouraging social and environmental justice in our cities. As a principal with Opticos Design, Inc. he provides design and thought leadership at all building scales, with a particular emphasis and interest in tools and solutions for small towns and rural communities. Adept at analyzing places and drawing ideas on paper, he is passionate about traditional building and town-making, and is uniquely skilled at bringing diverse people and opinions together to resolve conflicts and turn disagreements into productive projects.
BIOGRAPHY
Stefan Pellegrini is an architect, urbanist, and planner who directs the thesis studio for Berkeley's Master of Urban Design program. He studied architecture at the University of Notre Dame and urban design at UC Berkeley. Since 2001, Pellegrini has been a principal at Opticos Design, Inc. where he provides design and thought leadership at all building scales, with a particular emphasis and interest in tools and solutions for small towns and rural communities. Pellegrini has contributed to a wide variety of urban design, planning, and architecture projects, including the design of new towns, master planning and revitalization endeavors for central cities, and the design of mixed-use and civic structures. Much of his recent work has focused on community-based planning, coding, and revitalization strategies for small towns and underserved communities, as well as the development of contemporary urban design guidelines and form-based codes.
