BIOGRAPHY

Stefano Schiavon, PhD, is professor of architecture and civil and environmental engineering. He is associate dean for research and design at the College of Environmental Design and associate director of research at the Center for the Built Environment. Schiavon’s research is focused on finding ways to reduce energy consumption in buildings while improving occupant health, well-being, and performance. Schiavon has researched sustainable architecture, air conditioning and occupant satisfaction. He has experience in laboratory measurements, post-occupancy evaluation, and building performance simulation. He earned a PhD in energy engineering (2008) and an MS in mechanical engineering (2005) with honors from the University of Padova, Italy. He received the 2010 REHVA Young Scientist Award and 2013 ASHRAE Ralph Nevins Physiology and Human Environment Award. He won four Best Paper awards in 2018 and 2024 from the journal Building and Environment. Schiavon’s research has been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Forbes, The Atlantic, USA Today, Newsweek, The Associated Press, The Boston Globe, The Straits Times, La Repubblica, Architectural Record, and ArchDaily.
