Dmitri Vedensky (1930-1997)

Dmitri Nicholas Vedensky, Jr. (far right) attended the University of California, Berkeley, receiving his bachelor's degree (1951) and his master's degree in Architecture in 1955. He worked for eight years in the San Francisco office of Joseph Esherick until he left to open his own practice in 1964. Working mostly as a residential designer, he completed six houses at the Sea Ranch including his own residence which received the Architectural Award of Excellence for Design. From 1964 to 1967, Vedensky lectured and taught design at the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design. He was appointed to the San Francisco Art Commission and chaired the civic design committee for 10 years. He served as the chairman of the design review committee at the Sea Ranch from 1988 until his death in 1997.

The Dmitri Vedensky collection spans the years 1948-1996 and includes promotional photographs, project correspondence, specifications, notes, reports, drawings, site photographs and slides. Most of the collection contains projects completed by Vedensky as a sole practitioner. Professional papers document his involvement in the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Sea Ranch.
