Land Use and Health Program Associate, Physicians for Social Responsibility
Sheena Cabal joins the MRED+D program with three years of interdisciplinary experience in land use, environmental policy, and community engagement. She holds a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UCLA, where she built a strong foundation in environmental science and a systems-thinking approach to the built environment.
Her interest in real estate development grew through her work at the intersection of urban planning and stakeholder engagement, where she saw firsthand how development decisions influence community outcomes and shape how neighborhoods evolve.
As a Facilities and Energy Management Fellow with the Los Angeles Community College District, Sheena supported the Department of Facilities, Planning, and Development on its district-wide Sustainability Vision 2040 Plan and building decarbonization strategy. She later served as the Land Use and Health Program Associate at Physicians for Social Responsibility—Los Angeles, partnering with local organizations to research housing and development policies, including CEQA. and generate policy recommendations for land use policies related to housing, development, and CEQA. She also led stakeholder engagement and coalition-building efforts focused on brownfield remediation and infill redevelopment.
With a background spanning public policy, sustainability, and community-based development, Sheena brings a unique perspective on managing stakeholder relationships to advance project goals. She joins the program to build her technical and financial skill set and pursue a career in real estate development that delivers lasting value for both investors and communities.
In her free time, she enjoys being active outdoors—whether hiking, surfing, working out at her local gym, or exploring new national parks.
