Johnathan received his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Certificate in Real Estate from the University of Alberta in 2019. As part of his degree, he had the opportunity to work for Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (Government of Canada department) and a wealth management firm. Post-graduation, Johnathan joined one of Canada’s top affordable housing teams as a Financial Analyst at a national lender. He later co-founded CBRE Calgary’s Debt & Structured Finance team with a focus on financing the construction of multi-family developments, and was responsible for facilitating every aspect of the commercial mortgage transaction process. In his three-year tenure, Johnathan financed over $1 billion in commercial real estate, comprising 3,200 multi-family units across Canada.
With the MRED+D program, Johnathan’s goal is to gain a new perspective and comprehensive understanding of how to structure and execute upon commercial real estate developments that promote the three pillars of the program: design + urbanism, sustainability + resilience, and equity + inclusion. Upon completion, he plans to leverage his previous experience in commercial real estate lending and skills obtained from the program to pivot and begin his career in real estate development.
When he’s not working or studying, Johnathan enjoys exploring new countries or escaping to the Rocky Mountains where you can find him backcountry snowmobiling or dirt biking.
