Department of Architecture announces visiting faculty and fellows
The Department of Architecture is pleased to welcome the following visiting professors for the fall 2026 semester: Casper Mork-Ulnes as Friedman Visiting Professor of Practice, Luke Ogrydziak and Zoë Prillinger as Esherick Endowed Professors, and Laura Sánchez Carrasco and Íñigo Cobeta as UPM Visiting Professors of Practice. In addition, the inaugural Creedon Fellow, Julie Riley, will continue in this role for the coming academic year.
Friedman Visiting Professor of Practice: Casper Mork-Ulnes
Friedman Visiting Professor of Practice Casper Mork-Ulnes is principal of Mork-Ulnes Architects, an international architecture practice with offices in San Francisco and Oslo. Exploring the relationships among architecture, context, and material, the firm develops work that responds to the specific cultural, environmental, and physical conditions of place. Projects range in scale, from master plans and mixed-use buildings to ground-up residences and 100-square-foot cabins.
Mork-Ulnes Architects’ work has been widely featured in international publications, such as Abitare, Architectural Record, Dezeen, Domus, Dwell Magazine, The Financial Times, and The New York Times, and its first monograph, The Craft of Place, was published in 2024.
In 2020, Mork-Ulnes was honored with an Emerging Voices award by The Architectural League of New York and in 2019 he was nominated for The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. He holds a Master of Science degree in advanced architectural design from Columbia University, where he received the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize, and a BA with distinction from the California College of the Arts.
The Howard A. Friedman Visiting Professorship in the Practice of Architecture honors alum and former faculty member and department chair Howard A. Friedman, FAIA (1919–1988). It is intended to advance Friedman’s values and philosophy of humanistic architecture and enhance connections between the college and the profession.
Esherick Endowed Professorship: Luke Ogrydziak and Zoë Prillinger
Esherick Endowed Professors Luke Ogrydziak and Zoë Prillinger are principals of the San Francisco–based practice OPA, founded in 2004. Committed to forward-thinking built work driven by ideas and the innovative use of developing technologies, OPA has been widely published and recognized for design excellence. The firm specializes in crafting spatial experiences at multiple scales, from installations to interiors, buildings, and urban proposals.
Ogrydziak and Prillinger, both registered architects, received their AB and MArch degrees from Princeton University. They have taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and at UC Berkeley, where they served as Friedman Professors of Practice and taught other design studios. Ogrydziak has presented computational geometry papers at both ACADIA and Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG) conferences.
The Esherick Endowed Professorship honors renowned Bay Area architect Joseph Esherick (1914–1998), who taught in the Department of Architecture for more than 30 years. Esherick Visiting Professors have distinguished backgrounds in practice and have made significant contributions to the making of buildings that integrate building technology and design.
UPM Visiting Professors: Laura Sánchez Carrasco and Íñigo Cobeta
UPM Visiting Professors Laura Sánchez Carrasco and Íñigo Cobeta are joining us from Spain this semester as part of the annual program with the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) sponsored by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
Sánchez Carrasco is permanent faculty at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where she has taught since 2018. Her research and teaching focus on the history and theory of architecture after World War II, with particular attention to 20th-century American architecture, Spanish architecture, and the exchanges between the two, alongside a broader historiographic revision of modern and contemporary architecture.
She has authored more than 30 scientific works — articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings — including the recent texts “La influencia del automóvil en la arquitectura de Kevin Roche y John Dinkeloo” (VLC, 2024) and “Fernando Cavestany, arquitecto y dibujante” (EGA, 2023, with Íñigo Cobeta). She has presented at more than 20 international conferences and is a member of the Society of Architectural Historians. She received her PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and her master’s degree in the analysis, theory and history of Architecture from ETSAM, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Before joining UPM full-time, Sánchez Carrasco combined her academic career with architectural practice. Between 2007 and 2012, she ran her own studio with Jorge Martínez Martín, winner of several open architecture competitions and builder of 168 public housing units in Carabanchel, Madrid.
Íñigo Cobeta began his career as an architect and later joined the editorial teams of the magazines Pasajes de Arquitectura y Crítica and Arquitectura COAM, the official magazine of the Madrid College of Architects. In 2001, he joined MoneoBrockStudio, where he collaborated as an architect on the Panticosa Thermal Baths project. Between 2004 and 2008, he worked on the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, for which he served as Spain’s national delegate.
In 2016, he completed his doctoral thesis, “El Prado: From Territory to Stage,” under the supervision of Rafael Moneo. He received his PhD, master’s degree, and undergraduate degree in architecture from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Cobeta has been a professor at ETSAM since 2006, primarily teaching architectural analysis, architectural composition, and the composition workshop for the professional master’s degree. He received the Golden Compass Best Masters Teacher from ETSAM UPM in 2025.
