Workshop with Kyoto University of Art & Design
About
Professor Ken Kawai (MLA '93) will be visiting the San Francisco Bay Area with a group of students from the Kyoto University of Art & Design. Part of a multi-year collaboration between KUAD and CED, this workshop in Berkeley and San Francisco will focus on “Beyond Parklets: Toward Improvements to Semi-Public Space.” CED Faculty members joining Professor Ken Kawai during this workshop include LAEP Professor Louise Mozingo, LAEP Associcate Professor Karl Kullmann, and Professor of Architecture Dana Buntrock.
This is a great opportunity to collaborate with international students and make connections to one of the great global centers of architectural and landscape architectural design, Kyoto, Japan.
Purpose
Richness of urban outdoor public lives depends partially, but highly upon the richness of the transitions between the public spaces and the private. In other words, the design of semi-public spaces plays an important role to achieve that richness.
Credit
Students will earn 1 unit of independent study credits for the Fall 2019 semester for their participation.
