Wednesday | Oct 23, 2019
5:30pm - 7:30pm
Impact Hub 1117 State St Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Building: Wurster Hall

Dr. Gregory Morrow, an expert in the field of sustainable urban development and executive director of CED's Real Estate Development + Design program,  will be in Santa Barbara Wednesday, Oct. 23, to talk about economic vitality and addressing the local housing crisis while preserving Santa Barbara’s urban character.

The free event is at 5:30 p.m. at Impact Hub, 1117 State St. Comments from community leaders and a Q&A panel featuring Senior Assistant to the City Administrator Nina Johnson, Historic Landmarks Commissioner Anthony Grumbine, Planning Commissioner John Campanella, and developer Peter Lewis will be held following Morrow’s presentation.

Organized by the UC Berkeley Community of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, the program is to celebrate the upcoming 60th anniversary of the formation of UC Berkeley’s architectural program into the Center of Environmental Design.

An internationally acclaimed thought leader, Morrow is currently the Executive Director of the college’s Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development and Design. With a Ph.D. in urban planning, he will highlight his talk with case studies in Southern California.

“Economic vitality and housing development within Santa Barbara has been a major discussion topic in recent years,” says UC Berkeley group leader Ohan Arakelian. “Our purpose is to provide solutions that stem from academic and applied experiences within Southern California.”

Event supporters include the City of Santa Barbara, the County of Santa Barbara, DMHA Architecture, Hayward Lumber, Coastal Housing Coalition, TVSB Channel 17, AIA Santa Barbara, Impact Hub Santa Barbara, and Appleton Partners LLP.

Sponsor, Appleton Partners is home to CED alumni: Ken Mineau (B.A. Arch '81), a Managing Partner, and John Margolis (M. Arch '86), a Senior Project Manager.
