San Francisco–based writer, historian, and activist Rebecca Solnit joins us as a keynote speaker to offer her incisive perspectives on land, space, and the public realm, which have inspired conversations and activism locally and beyond.

Public Land, Public Space, Public Discourse, presented by the Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning, aims to spark critical thinking about how perceptions of public space and land impact our disciplines. Academics, practitioners, writers, and thinkers will bring a range of perspectives to a semester-long discussion of public realms.
About the Speaker
Rebecca Solnit is a UC Berkeley alum and prolific author of influential books, essays, and articles exploring feminism; Western and urban history; popular power, social change, and landscape; and themes of hope, resilience, and catastrophe in America. Her books include A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster, A Field Guide to Getting Lost, Savage Dreams: A Journey into the Hidden Wars of the American West, and Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas.
