Ed Barsley: Communicating Consequences | Architecture Lecture
In this talk, The Environmental Design Studio founder Ed Barsley discusses the key principles of flood resilient design and a range of novel approaches for communicating consequences and influencing behavior change. It begins by exploring the impact and pertinence of flooding and moves on to explore strategies for adaptation and resilience at the catchment, community and property scale.
About the Speaker
Ed Barsley runs The Environmental Design Studio (TEDS), an award-winning social venture. His RIBA book Retrofitting for Flood Resilience was published in 2020 and communicates the impacts of climate change and benefits of adaptation / resilience. In 2024, Barsley co-designed the Flood Resilient Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and has spoken about climate resilient design at Glastonbury and SXSW. Barsley is a fellow of the RSA and received his PhD in architecture from the University of Cambridge. He created the Climate Creatives Challenge and the Hazard + Hope initiatives to support innovation in climate communication.
