Chakrabarti is a professor of architecture, an architect, and founder of the New York–based firm Practice for Architecture and Urbanism. In 2018, he was named a fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
In addition to being president of the $13-billion international social-justice philanthropy the Ford Foundation, Walker is a member of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Reimagining New York Commission and co-chair of New York City’s Mayoral Advisory Commission on City Art, Monuments, and Markers. He also chaired the philanthropy committee that brought a resolution to the city of Detroit’s historic bankruptcy.
