Global higher education analysis firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its 2017 rankings of the world’s top universities for the study of Architecture & the Built Environment. UC Berkeley’s School of Architecture again features among the world’s elite programs ranking number 4 in a field of 200 universities world wide.
This year, for the seventh edition of the architecture survey, QS has expanded the ranking to list the world’s top 200 schools, including institutions across all six inhabited continents. QS bases the rankings by assesing performance according to what it believes to be key aspects of a university's mission: teaching, research, nurturing employability, and internationalization. The 2016/17 rankings made use of responses from 74,651 people from over 140 nations
UC Berekeley's Architecture Program offers world-class, award-winning faculty with both broad and deep intellectual diversity. Our undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as our faculty’s research endeavors, cover fields of design and design theory, history of architecture and urbanism, building science and sustainability, structures and construction, social and cultural processes, environmental design in developing countries, digital design and virtual environments, urban design, and visual studies. Rather than embrace architecture as a single concept, we welcome and value distinct views that broaden each of our own horizons through respectful debate. We are interested in the entire life cycle of the building process, from conceptualization, through design and representation, craft and construction, and the performance of both constructed and virtual environments.
