Professor Emeritus of Architecture Jean-Pierre Protzen and Stella Nair (PhD Arch '03) are the authors of the recently published book The Stones of Tiahuanaco. A Study of Architecture and Construction (Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press, UCLA, Los Angeles 2013). The book details the world's most artful and skillful stone architectures are found at Tiahuanaco at the southern end of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. Detailed analyses of building stones yield insights into the architecture of Tiahuanaco, including its appearance, rules of composition, canons, and production, filling a significant gap in the understanding of Tiahuanaco’s material culture.
