RAIC names 41 architects as College of Fellows inductees

Chakrabarti and four other non-Canadian architects will be among the 41 honorary inductees into the College of Fellows. The College recognizes members and distinguished laypersons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession and met the criteria of excellence in design and exceptional scholarly contribution.
The 2019 inductee portfolio includes a Montreal hospital expert, a Vancouver leader in sustainable design, and a Winnipeg scholar working toward a national architecture policy.
A CED alumnus, Chakrabarti (M.Arch ‘96) will begin his term as dean of CED in July, 2020 as he relocates and opens a west coast office of Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), the firm he founded in 2015. Chakrabarti has served as an associate professor of professional practice at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture since 2009, as well as director of the Manhattan office of New York’s Department of City Planning in the aftermath of 9/11.
Forty-one fellows will be inducted at the College of Fellows convocation ceremony on Oct. 29 at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto during the annual RAIC Festival of Architecture which takes place Oct. 26 to 30, 2019. At the College of Fellows Convocation, Chakrabarti will speak about the future of architecture.
