21 July 2015
Alvaro Huerta, (Ph.D.City & Regional Planning '11), Assistant Professor of Urban & Region Planning and Ethnic & Women’s Studies at Cal Poly Pomona, presented at TEDxClaremontColleges on March 17. His talk, titled “Reframing Migration as a Universal Human Right,” advocates migration as a fundamental human right. Huerta examines political rhetoric which disenfranchises undocumented immigrants and the possibility of open borders, discussing Professor Emeritus of City & Regional Planning Michael Dear's work in examining the US-Mexico divide. “Humans have been in constant movement throughout history, and always will be,” says Huerta.
