LA TIMES -- Raymond Watson (B.A. Arch '51, M.Arch '53) passed away on October 26, 2012 at the age of 86 in his home in Newport Beach. After graduating from CED Watson joined Irvine Co. as a planner. Irvine Co. As a planner Watson was involved in the efforts of building the town from scratch--one of the largest projects of its kind in the country. His concept for the project was "separate villages that had their own character": interlocking villages with their own schools, parks, greenbelts and shopping plazas, homes, and apartments. Watson was president of the Irvine Co. from 1973 to 1977 and vice chairman of the board from 1986 to 2003.
