The "Oyster House" design by Christopher Lee (B.A. Architecture, '01) and Dungjai Pungauthaikan (B.A. Architecture, '01) was awarded first prize and $2000 in the Add-on'13 Design Competition for Affordable Accessory Dwellings held in Wellfleet, MA. Their collaboration with Mengyi Fan in the winning team "CxMxD" was selected from among six finalists and 120 entries by architects and architectural students nationwide.
The "Oyster House" design proposal incorporated a cluster of three housing units with a communal outdoor shared space, including a protected courtyard and terraced pentagonal decks. The project received recognition for its cluster design's potential for further development. The "Oyster House" design as a low-profile, repeatable unit aims to use less material and energy while offering more to Cape Cod's landscape. Entries were evaluated based on a criteria of aesthetics, livability, buildability, site strategy, and social space.
Christopher is a Senior Design Associate at SHoP Architects. Dungjai was the former Art Director at Metropolis Magazine, before launching her own creative direction and design practice in New York.
