This year’s Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture honors Michael Pyatok, FAIA, who has demonstrated a commitment to quality design of public architecture while working in a public sector. Pyatok is the head of the Oakland-based Pyatok Architects, and has focused on elevating the quality of design in affordable and low-income housing, advocating for social cohesion through density, mixed uses, and proximity to transit and services in low-income communities. Pyatok has also demonstrated a commitment to education, and teaches architectural design in the U.S. and Mexico for almost thirty years.
