College of Environmental Design alumnus Fred Blackwell (M.C.P. ‘96) was named one of the most admired CEOs by the San Francisco Business Times this month.
Blackwell is the CEO of the San Francisco Foundation, one of the largest community foundations in the country. Working hand-in-hand with donors, community leaders and both public and private partners, the Foundation acts as an incubator for community investment, original ideas and passionate leadership in the Bay Area.
Leading the San Francisco Foundation since 2014, Blackwell has cultivated a national legacy and focused the Foundation’s efforts on creating thriving communities in the Bay Area through an agenda focused on racial and economic inclusion and equity.
Blackwell cites his family, specifically his mother, as a reigning influence and motivation in his career.
“She’s someone who never shies away from a fight, never shrinks away from a complex issue, but also thinks about how to involve others in whatever she’s engaged in, and those are the kind of leaders that I think we need more of today,” he said.
