Social Science Research Council (SSRC)
04 February 2014
Dana Buntrock, Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design, was awarded a 2013 Abe Fellowship from the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) for $50,000. The Abe Fellowship supports US- and Japan-based researchers focusing on policy-relevant contemporary issues.
The fellowship is designed to encourage international multidisciplinary research on topics of pressing global concern and long-range importance, and is supported by the SSRC, the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership and the American Council of Learned Societies. Buntrock will be on sabbatical in 2014-15 and traveling in Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
Buntrock will investigate the most effective way to influence building designers and owners in the face of a pressing need for greater reductions in energy demand. She employs three major policy strategies in her research proposal to influence building design, and her research focus is on how architects engage the construction industry, with a special interest in architectural practice in Japan.
